Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Muppets: Everything About the 2026 Reopening

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Muppets: Everything About the 2026 Reopening

The wait is over. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets officially reopens in 2026, and if you’ve been following the refurbishment closely, you already know this is a significant transformation — not just a new coat of paint.

What Was There Before

The original Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (1999-2024) was a beloved Hollywood Studios institution — a high-speed indoor coaster with Aerosmith branding, synchronized rock music, and three inversions in near-total darkness. It was consistently one of the park’s top attractions.

Disney announced in 2024 that the Aerosmith partnership was ending and a full retheme was coming. Fans were vocal — Aerosmith fans especially. But after riding the new version, here’s our take.

What Changed

The Overlay

The new experience centers on The Muppets — specifically Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, and the full gang. The premise: you’ve been hired as the limo driver for the Muppets’ world tour, and things immediately go sideways.

The queue features an extended video pre-show with original Muppets footage shot specifically for this attraction. It’s genuinely funny — the writers leaned into classic Muppets chaos energy rather than trying to make it action-movie serious.

The Vehicles

The original stretch limo vehicles are gone. The new ride vehicles are styled as vintage tour buses with a more vibrant, retro color palette. The seating configuration is similar (you still load 3 rows), and the restraint system is essentially unchanged.

The Music

This is the biggest discussion point. The original Aerosmith soundtrack was purpose-built for the coaster, with different songs triggering at different moments. The new Muppets score is original, composed in the same driving rock style — but it’s not Aerosmith.

Is it as good? That’s subjective. The composition is tight and genuinely energetic. Whether it hits the same emotional notes as hearing “Dude Looks Like a Lady” at 60mph is personal.

The Coaster Itself

The coaster layout is unchanged. All three inversions remain. The launch sequence from 0-60mph in under 3 seconds is still there. The track darkness is intact. If you loved the mechanics of the original, you’ll love the mechanics of the new version.

Our Honest Take

The Muppets overlay works. It’s funnier than expected, the pre-show is a highlight, and the coaster itself is still one of the most technically impressive at Walt Disney World. Anyone who avoided it because “it’s not Aerosmith anymore” is missing out on a genuinely great attraction.

For first-time visitors: this should be in your top 3 at Hollywood Studios alongside Slinky Dog Dash and Tower of Terror.

Tips for 2026

  • Lightning Lane is essential: Waits have been hitting 75-90 minutes since reopening. Grab Lightning Lane Multi Pass as your first selection of the day.
  • Height requirement: 48 inches (122 cm) — same as before.
  • Best time: First 30 minutes after park opening or final 45 minutes before close.
  • Health advisory: Still not suitable for guests with back/neck issues or those sensitive to high-speed motion.
